Our care and support team at Arlington, and our colleague Brid Burke, have been recognised for their outstanding effort by being shortlisted for this year’s Housing Heroes, run by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Our team at Arlington has been shortlisted for the ‘Support and Care Team of the Year’ award category, which celebrates teams that excel at ‘helping people who need care and support to be able to lead independent lives’.
Arlington is the largest mixed-use hostel in the UK and supports residents who have varying needs due to their history of being homeless or sleeping rough, which include mental health support needs, substance dependency, and physical health needs.
The team there offers residents bespoke support which enables them to build confidence, resilience and access training and employment opportunities. The team has been working incredibly hard to help people to move on to secure homes and more stable futures. Over the last twelve months alone, the team has supported 18 customers into independent living.
Also, our colleague Brid Burke has been shortlisted for the ‘Inspirational Colleague of the Year’ award for her commitment to helping residents with financial difficulties. The award recognises individuals who have gone ‘above and beyond’ and showed ‘unstoppable determination’ in what they do.
Brid was instrumental in setting up ‘Making Money Work’, a One Housing programme aimed at vulnerable clients who are struggling with managing debt. Since 2016, she has helped over 500 customers by offering two-hour full welfare reviews and financial health checks.
Brid’s holistic approach with clients, and her ‘never give up’ attitude has delivered remarkable results for many of our customers who face increasingly complex challenges around managing their income. Since 2016, Brid has reduced rents arrears by an impressive £143,000 and has claimed a remarkable £1.1m for our customers.
Joe Thomas, our Head of Housing for Health, Care & Support, said: “Brid is a force of nature. Her dedication and enthusiasm allows her to achieve so much within her role, which hugely benefits our customers and residents”.
