We have a unique and exciting opportunity for one of our residents to join the One Housing Group Board. Putting your skills, passion and experience into practice, this role will allow you to make a valuable contribution to the delivery of our strategic objectives.

As a Group Board Member you will help oversee the delivery of our 2018-23 corporate plan. You will work closely with other board members, independent committee members and the Executive to make sure we achieve our objectives, while managing risk and delivering great services.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team while challenging and contributing to the Board’s thinking in a positive way.  Representing the perspective of our residents at Board level is an important part of this role. However, with collective responsibility for the strategic direction and delivery of the organisation the Resident Board Member will need the ability to see beyond their personal interests. You are not expected to be an expert in all the areas that the Board oversees but you will be able to deal with complex information and contribute to effective decision making. Induction, training and ongoing peer support will be provided to the successful candidate.

Our existing Resident Board Member, Carol Yarde, is stepping down this autumn following nine years’ excellent service. We are hoping to appoint her successor before then. This role is remunerated (£10k per annum).

The Board meets six times a year and as a Board member you will also be expected to sit on one of the sub-committees of the Board.  Meetings generally last 3 hours.  Board meetings are held in the morning, committee meetings in the afternoon or early evening.  To apply for this role you must be a resident of One Housing Group, either a tenant or a leaseholder.  The role profile and person specification set out the skills, experience and expertise required in this role.  You can find them here together with details of the application process and timeline.

A personal commitment to self-development and learning, diversity and inclusion and a strong empathy with and commitment to One Housing Group’s social purpose and values are a requirement for this role.

If this sounds like you, we look forward to hearing from you.  If you would like an initial conversation about this role please contact Terry Stacey on 07940 502683 from Monday 29th April 2019.

One Housing are committed to the principles of Leadership 2025, an initiative spearheaded by our Group Board Chair, Steve Douglas, which aims to increase the representation of black and minority ethnic people in leadership positions in the UK housing sector. We are also supporters of Women in Social Housing (WISH), promoting and encouraging young women to choose and progress careers in the sector. We are proud of the fact that our Group board currently has 50-50 representation of women and BME members, and we are committed to continuing diverse representation in our leadership teams.

The closing date for all applications is 6pm Monday 20th May 2019.
